Experience Hospitality on Trees!

Have you ever wondered how it would feel like to spend an entire vacation on a tree? One that comes equipped with all the facilities and luxuries of a hotel?  Well, the Tree Hotel in Sweden does just that! It’s a unique hotel that comes with six stylish branch hung dens, each suspended 4 -6 meters above the ground and coming with its own unique design. There is The Cabin (resembling a cabin in the trees), The Mirrorcube (a room camouflaged by mirror walls) The UFO (a room resembling an actual UFO) and The Bird’s Nest (a room designed just like a bird’s nest). Having sauna and spa facilities and offering a wide variety of fun activities, the Tree Hotel is truly one of the best examples of fine hospitality.

The Tree Hotel is the creation of Britta and Kent. Britta, a former nurse, and Kent, a teacher turned international fly fishing travel guide, wanted to create a hotel that gave people a chance to experience nature amongst tree-tops, while also designing a unique housing experience. Inspired from the 2008 film ‘The Tree Lover’ by Selberg Augustsen, the vision behind Tree Hotel was to offer high quality accommodation in a harmonious environment. After collaborating with Scandinavia’s leading architects, Britta and Kent were able to bring their vision to life as the Tree Hotel officially opened its doors to visitors in 2010.

As I’m fairly certain that the Tree Hotel’s uniquely designed rooms have caught your interest, here’s a heads up. Firstly, you’ll be required to check in at the Brittas Pensionat Guesthouse (a 12-room guesthouse built in 1931), from where you will be taken to your tree room. Another thing to keep in mind is that though all the tree rooms come equipped with a toiled and wash basin, they are shower free. As such, you’ll have to use the guesthouse if you want to take a shower. You’d be surprised to know that the Tree Hotel offers a wide variety of fun activities including full day hikes, white water rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, zip lining and ice fishing.

You’ll be glad to know two things. Firstly, your room cost includes a buffet breakfast that gets served at the guesthouse. Secondly, if your child is under 2 years old, you won’t have to pay for him. If you have a pet you want to carry along, the Blue Cone is the only tree room that is dog stay friendly. The Blue Cone is also accessible via wheelchair, making it the ideal room for the physically disabled as well.

The Tree Hotel is located in the village of Harads, near River Lule. It’s approximately 100 kilometers from Luleå airport, so be prepared for a lengthy taxi ride. From the Britta’s Pensionat guest house, it’ll just take you a five minute stroll through the woods and you’ll be in front of your tree room in no time.
